Founded in 2011, the “Carpathia” Folk Dance Ensemble is a Washington, D.C.-based, multi-ethnic group dedicated to preserving and sharing the beauty of Romanian traditional dance. Over the years, Carpathia has become well-known for its vibrant, authentic performances that celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of Romania.
This all-volunteer ensemble features dancers from a variety of backgrounds—including both individuals of Romanian descent and others who, though not Romanian by heritage, have embraced the country’s rich folklore with passion and respect. Together, they bring to life dances from across Romania’s many regions, showcasing the unique styles and rhythms of places like Moldova, Transylvania, Oltenia, Muntenia, and Dobrogea.
During our event, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a lively performance by Carpathia, featuring beloved Romanian folk dances such as Alunelu’, Rustem, Geamparale, and more. Their energy, precision, and joy on stage create an unforgettable cultural experience for all ages.
And if you’re feeling inspired—don’t just watch… join in! Audience participation is encouraged, so get ready to clap, step, and spin along with the rhythm of Romanian tradition.
The splendid blouse will be one of the highlights of “The Romanian Weekend at The Wharf,” as admirers—and wearers—from the U.S., Romania, and the Republic of Moldova will gather on the festival’s stage on Saturday, July 12, at 4:00 PM.
The Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse, a global event coordinated by the online community La Blouse Roumaine, is celebrated on six continents, in over 60 countries and 130 cities.
